C’est Partí 300k Brevet
When I did the Bestias Salvajes century I saw a runway of opportunity to train up to this brevet on the PCH Randonneurs calendar. Plus the fact that it swung by so close to home and I had two bailout points was also encouraging. So I freaking did it! I blew past my mileage PR of 126 by 60 miles! Here’s more or less how the ride went.
0-30 miles: “God, I love cycling”
30-67 miles: “This is harder than I thought
67-120 miles: “cycling is the WORST, what have I done”
120-140 miles: “There is no Jairo. There is only pedals, there is only cold, there is only pain.
140-187 miles: *on the prowl for glizzies and pizza*
I felt absolutely wrecked coming back from San Bernardino but then the moment I saw Angel Stadium in the distance it’s like my body recognized the familiar locations and woke the fuck up. I can’t explain it but I felt good after almost all the way through the remaining 60 miles even the back pain that had been plaguing me just vanished. Cruising along HB and bolsa chica more tired than I’ve ever been in my life was a new experience. Then the little bonus jaunt up the San Gabriel River Path was easy after all VFIXII rides I’ve done through there. What a wild day.
