Pine 2 Palm 2022!
Had a great race today/yesterday. 2nd 100 mi, 1st sub 24.
Record heat for the race and saw a record number of DNFs, but I felt as though the smoke really kept the sun's intensity down. Really helped to cool off at every aid station, add ice to arm sleeves, running vest, and hat. Also ran with an extra liter between the hottest aid stations just to dump on my head. Changed into ininji socks at Hanley when my right toe started feeling hot. Changed shoes at Dutchman. Ran with poles, then forgot them at Squaw. Mainly ate salted watermelon, boiled potatoes, and bananas. Supplemented with Gu and gummies.
Ran with Miguel for most of the night and urged him to continue on at Wagner Butte when he was about to give up on the sub 24. Started slogging between Siskiyou to Grouse and wasn't sure if we were going to make it.
Shout out to all the volunteers, RVR, Hal for throwing together such an tricky event. I saw so many folks out there today, and every face gave me a little boost... which is clearly what got me under 24.
Congrats to Jace for killing it and taking home the gold. Aaron, Kyle, and Derek for the stoke and planning. Chad for letting me pace him in 2019, which actually helped a lot for the last 20 miles. I felt like I had done it before and knew I could do it again.
Didn't put my charger in the right drop bag so my watch died. So used my phone for a bit in the middle, and combined the gpx on .. so may be a bit wonky.
55 finishers, 80 DNFs. Tough race.
