Corner to Corner, Day 33: Altnaharra to Thurso

https://www.cycling4charity.org.uk Great route. Expectations were for a busy North Coast 500 route: we saw 6 cyclists and maybe 100 cars all day. Wind directly ahead or close by for last 31 miles from Bettyhill. At mile 29, my left fork water bottle fell. Thought bolt or its hole damaged and maybe forks would not last. At hotel, found another bolt screwed in fine and same bolt on right fork loose. Bikeability maintenance training in May: daily M-check would have identified that, and I would tightened rather than lost the bolt! Daily M-check thereafter, and daily tightening of these bolts. Realised that when the Duchess of Sutherland rehoused people from the clearances, they were re-housed on the edge of the sea with few possibilities. 14.16 climbing hill to Bettyhill: seeing the Atlantic: unexpected seismic moment for me: Ralph Cox had cycled from London via Land’s End to the Atlantic. It would prove more important to me than reaching JOG.
