Shasta #29
Adrien’s first time up. Really cool to experience the climb with him, he’s been wanting it for so long.
Roller coaster 🎢 of a day. I knew the day to go was yesterday, but I was stuck in a parking lot learning to teach bike skills… which would’ve been fine if this wasn’t such an epic weekend.
Adrien was willing to wait til Mon to join me. Honestly, it didn’t look like much of a window, but better than the rest of the week.
I convinced Kota (quite easily) to join me for the 3 am alarm and drive. The mtn was socked in when we got there, and we ran into 7 folks who gave up on their way back down and they all told us we should turn around. who basically told us to turn around. It was only 10 am and I’m really adept at climbing straight into 0 visibility clouds, so I figured that we’ll make our own decisions. Each person has their own turn around pt after all and why would we listen to a stranger coming down? 🤔
At the top of Misery Hill the skies opened up and we got our first glimpse of the mtn. We were a lonely group at the top… everyone else had bailed. Enjoyed some rimed ice at the top, some wind buff, then crunchy hard pack, to smooth corn, and some mashed potatoes and finally some gloppity glop. Skis off at the car.
Nailed it!
