Teslin River and Yukon River Canoe Trip, Day 2, part 2 - past the forest fire

Active forest fire on both sides of the river. Paddling past was a non-issue, fire was completely silent, then once past there must've been a gust of wind and the fire roared. Once we were approaching a tree that whooshed into flames, a lot like when Jay Stark burns his annual Christmas tree in the backyard in may. Fire area was about 2km long and the smoke was only present through less than 1km either side of the fire. Mostly, it was not much worse than a bad smoke day in Saskatoon. All in all, it was a surreal experience and very interesting, but never really felt dangerous. We were quite apprehensive before we started the trip with this brand new fire that started along the Teslin. We talked to the canoe outfitter and to the Yukon wildfire protective services and they didn't seem that concerned about canoes passing through the area, so we started our trip as planned and ensured we could camp well away from the fire area. Caught grayling in the mouth of the creek we camped beside.
